Frequently Asked Questions

  • What happens in my first singing lesson?
In your first singing lesson, I will ascertain what your aims and objectives are, and what you wish to achieve in our sessions; for example whether you wish to focus on technical work or vocal coaching and repertoire. I will also take a history of any singing you have done in the past, including any vocal health issues you have had or are currently experiencing.
  • Are backing tracks or sheet music required for my singing lesson?
Sheet music is ideal, but a backing track is ok too. Please see my affiliated site: Musicroom.com
  • Where can I obtain sheet music?
There are a variety of on-line suppliers; I tend to use musicroom.com, sheetmusicdirect.com, musicnotes.com, dotsmusiccamden.co.uk and also Yamaha Music London (formerly Chappell’s Of Bond Street).
  • Where can I get music transposed / re-arranged?
I recommend Note Perfect Music Ltd.
  • Do I need to bring an accompanist for vocal coaching?
The short answer is no. However, if you wish to bring your own accompanist that's fine.
  • Can I record my session?
Yes absolutely! It’s a great idea to be able to revisit the lesson later. NB: Lessons may be recorded for personal reference only. Any broadcasting or posting on any website or social media platform whatsoever is strictly forbidden.
  • I’ve never had singing lessons before / I haven’t sung for a long time and I’m nervous about taking lessons.
Please don’t be! A friendly and relaxed atmosphere is a big part of what I strive to create; such is necessary for the best vocal production.
  • Can I book a Zoom lesson from anywhere in the world (including the UK)?
Absolutely - you will need a decent internet connection and a Zoom account. See my How It Works page for details.
  • What are the advantages of becoming a member of your website community?
Once invited to become a member, you will benefit from priority online booking, using all major credit and debit cards, or PayPal. You will also have access to special offers, newsletters, motivational tips and exclusive invitations to my workshops.
  • How do I become a member?
Usually, I invite my students to become members after our first period (normally half a term) of working together.
  • Which examination board(s) do you use?
Associated Board of the Royal Schools Of Music, Trinity College & London College Of Music.
  • Do you provide an agency service?
No, but I work closely with many leading agents, and am happy to give advice and recommendations.
  • Can you recommend somewhere for inexpensive demos, piano accompaniments and bespoke backing tracks?"
A friendly, musical and helpful service is provided by Note Perfect Music Ltd.
  • What happens if I am late for my singing lesson?
Please let me know as soon as possible. Normally you will forfeit the time missed, since it will have been reserved for you. Please see my booking terms and conditions for further details.
  • What happens if I can’t attend a booked session?
Please let me know as soon as possible. If you cancel a booked session with less than 24 hours notice, a 50% cancellation fee will be payable. Please see my booking terms and conditions for further details.
  • Can I book a shorter or longer session?
Normally sessions are either 55 minutes or 25 minutes, but there can be exceptions by prior arrangement. You can email me if you'd like to request this.
